The Art (and Science) of Rowing:

Before I was a designer, I coached competitive mens and women's rowing. My experience showed me that successful rowers have mastered the art of anticipation and reaction. The finest crews are those who can precisely and swiftly execute a sequence of actions, within a desired rhythm, repeatedly over time, at the same time. Yet, the ways that coaches, athletes, and coxswains have of sensing and measuring the synchronicity of their actions are primarily subjective - relying on observation or experience - rather than concrete measurements.

This project walks through both the art and science of the sport, and illustrate how the introduction of new sensing mechanisms could have significant effect on the training strategies and boat speed of experienced crews.
